Section 1 INTRODUCTION
~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Course Form is designed to rate horses on a points basis and thereby
try to assess the most likely winner of a race. It is simple and fast
in use since all input is via the mouse. The system can be operated from
most daily papers
To get the best from Course Form please read the instructions carefully.
If you are unfamiliar with the PPmore text viewer then press the HELP key
for a command summary.
Section 2.1 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Course Form requires at least 1Mb of memory to run.
Section 3 USING THE PROGRAM
~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To use the program you will require a newspaper which lists the runners
in the days races. Select a race that you wish to rate and follow the
steps below.
1] SELECT COURSE FROM THE MAIN MENU.
The Course screen will allow you to enter details about the race you
wish to rate e.g. National Hunt or Flat etc. Simply click on the
radio buttons to alter the settings and click on the CANCEL button
to return to the main menu.
2] SELECT RATE FROM THE MAIN MENU.
This will take you to the FORM CARD SCREEN. Using your newspaper you
must now enter details on the four favourite horses running in the race
as given in the S.P. Betting Forecast. If you are unsure how this
information is obtained please please refer to the section on Newspaper
Form Cards.
which Horse you are currently entering information for e.g. Favourite,
Second Favourite etc.
Information required
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
All the following items are input via radio buttons, except the name
of the horse which must be typed.
NAME:
The Name of the horse. This is for your reference only and may be omitted.
FORM LAST TIME OUT:
This informs the program where the horse was placed in its previous
race. If the horse was placed less than fourth or was unplaced click
on the radio button marked UNP.
WEIGHT:
This informs the program of the weight of the horse. This section will
only appear in Handicap races.
AGE:
Tells the program how old the horse is.
COURSE/DISTANCE
Informs the program if the horse was a Course and Distance Winner,
Course Winner or Distance winner.
When you have entered information for the four favourite horses you
must then click on the RATE button.
3] RATING SCREEN:
The rating screen will list the horses and the rating figure it has
given each one. Click on PRINT if you wish to print out this information.
Please refer to section 4 for details on how to interprit the rating
figures.
Section 4 RATING FIGURES
~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Any rating figure of above 75 is strong indication that the horse should
do well. Conversely any figure below 40 and the horse should be avoided.
Where two or more rating figures are the same or where the best rating
figure is only just above the second best rating figure then the race is
perhaps best avoided.
Section 5 NEWSPAPER FORM CARDS
~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you are unsure of how to read the form cards which appear in the
Daily Newspapers then please refer to the following section for an
example:
EXAMPLE:
(1) 3.30- WEST COUNTRY PALE ALE HANDICAP CHASE 2m 5f
(2) 3 P6353P KILKILMARTIN (C&D) H.Manners 11-11-4
Line 1 carries information on the race. This information is used to
set the course type from the course menu. If all runners are the same
age then age information will also appear here. In this example the
setting would be NATIONAL HUNT, HANDICAP, CHASE.
Line 2 carries information on the horse. The name of the horse appears
in the centre ( KILKILMARTIN ) and to the left of this is where the
horse was placed last time out. If this figure is anything other then
1, 2, 3 or 4 then click on the radio button marked UNP. To the right
of the name appears the Course & Distance information. If the letters
(C&D) appear in brackets after the name then the horse is a Course &
Distance winner. If the letter (D) appears in brackets then the horse
is a distance winner. If the letter (C) appears then the horse is a
course winner. If none of these letters appear then click on the button
marked NONE. To the right of the trainers name ( H. Manners ) comes the
rest of the information needed. The first figure is the age of the horse
(11) and the next figure is the weight(11-4).
